PERSONALITY: Sol is quite rude, even to people he likes. He doesn’t bother sparing people’s feelings in any way whatsoever. He has no interest in softening whatever he has to say, regardless of the consequences. He also doesn’t like to speak unless he has to -- he sees no point in using more words than necessary. In canon, this is most evident in his interactions with Axl. Axl is always friendly towards Sol and Sol returns it with either insults or outright threats.
He’s also very direct and blunt. He will talk to whoever he needs to and ignore anyone else. He doesn’t bother with middlemen nor small talk. They’re both pointless and irritating to him. In canon, Ky tries to get Sol to stop and listen to him about something Ky feels is important and Sol just runs off. Actions mean much more than words and he will do things first and consider the consequences later. This isn’t to say he’s dumb, just brash. In canon, he agrees to be launched on a rocket in intercept The Cradle in order to get there fast enough. Nothing about the idea was sane in any sense of the word and he went along with it, anyway.
He’s also quite cynical about life in general, but he can be hypocritical about his cynicism. He will make fun of people for having a strong sense of justice or morality, but he has a very strong sense of right and wrong himself. He has a strange view of other people’s morality and sets himself apart from it. He’s really not quite as cynical as he outwardly appears, but he puts on a very strong front about it. It seems more like he doesn’t want to be bothered about this issue.
Sol is also very compassionate, but not immediately. He will act out of kindness towards people he feels have earned it or that remind him of himself or things he cares about. This isn’t to say it’s entirely selfish compassion, it just takes a lot to make him care. He shows mercy in canon to Solaria and Dizzy, who are both dangerous command-type Gears because of their innocence and kindness. He also takes in the son of Ky and Dizzy as a favor, despite the fact he’s not exactly father material. Even if he’s not particularly open about it, he will do small things, like provide assistance to someone who really needs it. He’ll put on an act of annoyance, but it’s just an act. He doesn’t mind helping out those who really need it.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Sol is pyrokinetic. He cannot create flame, though he can manipulate it. So long as there’s fuel around for the fire to consume, he can make it larger or smaller and burn hotter or colder. The flames highest temperature is enough to melt titanium, a little over 3000 degrees fahrenheit. If there’s no fuel for the fire to burn, there’s not a whole lot he can do. His flames are confined within about a six foot radius of himself. He has a custom built weapon that produces the combustion necessary to create flame, using modified shotgun shells (namely, their blasting caps).
He was also modified by the Weapons Plus project. He has strength much above that of a normal person, as well as reduced aging due to cellular manipulation. This has, however, affected his metabolism in a negative way. It requires him to consume upwards of 10,000 calories in a day, which is very difficult to do. He takes caloric supplements daily to assist with this. After using his augmented strength in noticeable ways (such as a fight), he also suffers from pretty nasty headaches. As far as limits for his strength, he can lift a car or large pick up when necessary, but anything larger than that is beyond him. His headband also functions as a limiter on his strength and he removes it only when it’s necessary for him to use it.
AU HISTORY: Sol’s early history and childhood is fuzzy to everyone, including himself. His real name is Frederick and from a young age, he was interested in both biology and chemistry. He was a teenager when his mutant powers awakened, though in a much less traumatizing way than what most others went through. He only nearly singed off his eyebrows when lighting a cigarette, not realizing he was the one making the fireball grow.
He was able to keep a lid on his power and kept it hidden and under control throughout his school career. He graduated from college with a degree in biochemistry and was admitted into graduate school. Here is where his life started to change from one of normalcy to what it became. He was working with a team of fellow graduate students on a project involving mutant cells. It had become known that he was a mutant now and, to further knowledge of what mutant cells were capable of, he volunteered himself as a test subject. The testing ended in a fireball that destroyed a good chunk of the lab. Frederick subsequently disappeared.
This accident was a good way to get noticed by the Weapons Plus project. Frederick was found not too long after the incident occurred. He was brought in under the pretense of knowing about the incident and being told that they could “help” him. Frederick didn’t want help, though, but it was either that or the cops. What choice did he have, really? He soon learned the truth that they were an organization dedicated to exploiting mutations and other methods in order to create better soldiers -- a program borne from Abraham Erskine’s Project Rebirth. He was subject to horrendous experiments that pushed his body to its limits and beyond. He refused to let it break him, though, and refused to become a weapon for someone else’s war. He knew what had become of Steve Rogers and others that had been through the project and refused to let himself be used. With the help of a fellow mutant by the name of Dr. Paradigm, he managed to escape.
Paradigm saw the shining light and spirit within the now changed Frederick and gifted him with a new name: Sol. Taking it one step further, Sol gave himself a slightly ridiculous last name of Badguy, due to his love of the band Queen (he didn’t really think that one through). He was now somewhat of a lost soul and took to wandering. He had no real home and never bothered to settle down for longer than he had to. Logan, a fellow survivor of the program Sol had been through, reached out to him and offered him a teaching position and place to be around other mutants. Despite his distrust of anyone offering him “help”, he decided to take him up on the offer.

LOG SAMPLE: Sol sat alone, as he usually did, outside. It was night and about the only light came from his cigarette. He hated being left alone with his thoughts sometimes. His thoughts, as they usually did, drifted back to the experiments he had been subject to. He didn’t even know how long ago that was; his sense of time was beyond skewed. Had it been decades ago or did it happen last month?
“There’s no time for us, there’s no place for us...What is this thing that builds our dreams, yet slips away from us?”
Less of a question than it was him starting to sing. It was a coping mechanism for dealing with unpleasant thoughts. He didn’t like these reminders of what he’d been through, of who he’d seen die before him, or that he really did have feelings. He would much rather be numb to the world and have no attachments. Life was easier that way.
“Who wants to live forever…? There’s no chance for us, no life for us,” he continued to sing, a little louder now.
Anything to block out the thoughts. This was his last resort to get rid of these awful memories and thoughts. He wanted more than anything to forget what happened. He wanted his normal life back.
“It’s all decided, the world has only one sweet moment set aside for us…”
Sol wasn’t sure if that moment had come or gone for him yet. He’d never be sure until he was on his death bed. That’s the whole reason he carried on -- that one sweet moment. He didn’t want to live forever, he wouldn’t live forever, but like hell he wasn’t going to keep living until the world gave him his one moment.
